Five Artists, Writers, Surfers to Follow on Instagram

(Bradley Siefert)

As the cold begins to set in and my skin begins to miss the feeling of the sun, I turn to Instagram for inspiration as to how folks across the country are spending their time to venerate the autumnal seasons.

This is a list of my favorite creators who document their relationship to their environment and work to increase joyful accessibility to the outdoors.

Chelsea Murphy: @she_colorsnature (she/her)

As a mother of three, Chelsea’s videos showcase her endeavors to make the outdoors more inclusive. She leads Black, Indigenous and women of color in beginner mountain biking lessons.

Solange Aguilar: @shesanargonaut (they/ze)

Solange is an artist who creates gorgeous zines, prints, stickers and poetry on the topic of land stewardship, Indigenous rights and the natural world among other subjects.

Peggy Oki: @peggyoki (she/her)

Peggy is an activist known for her work to end whaling through her Origami Whales Project. She is a surfer, skateboarder and rock climber. I highly recommend you check out her TEDx Talk.

Karen Ramos: @naturechola (she/her)

Karen educates her audience on marginalized communities and the history of environmental, community-based activists while also providing tips on outdoor adventures.

Jessica Kleczka: @jessicakleczka (she/her)

Jessica is a climate psychologist, campaigner & writer building a tiny cottage. She collaborates to produce the much-appreciated Positive Climate News of the Week.

Let me know the other Instagram baddies you follow who are telling stories about their own evolving relationships with the outdoors.
